Yeah, that was the one. It is the first Super Bowl I ever remember watching. I loved Alzado and Plunkett. I met Ken Stabler once at a restaraunt. He has a bar at the beach on the Fl/AL line, but I have never been. They have a tradition their that the women take off their bras on throw them in the rafters.

Bomber Graham was at his best in the early 80's IMO and McCallum at his best in the mid-80's, they DEFINATELY could of mixed with Hearns, Leonard and Duran. Infact Hagler vacated the WBA belt rather than fight Bomber (who was mandatory), but you can't blame him for that when he had $20million payday with Leonard! (Bomber would of made the '86 Hagler look bad, and Hagler would of made no money from it because Bomber was never a draw due to his overly-evasive, overly-defensive style)

Although he's not known for it, McCallum could stick and move quite well in his earlier years. He was not running though, just boxing, and if an opponent moved inside McCallum would counter with body shots rather than tying up inside. His style made for great fights with plenty of skilled boxing mixed with sharp punching.Last edited by GEOFFHAYES; 10-04-2006, 01:26 PM.

Eubank was supposed to be fighting either Julian Jackson for the vacant WBC title or Mike McCallum for the WBA belt, after a warm-up fight against that Contreras guy with the permed mop of hair. But he had to finish Contreras in style and messed it up, trying too hard too early to get him out of there, Contreras soaked so many clean uppercuts laced through his guard and classy clusters of hooks. Afterwards Eubank said something like: "I've studied them (McCallum and Jackson), and they aren't as slippery as that (Contreras)".
I'd of picked Eubank to take McCallum, remember at one of Eubank's fights (Stretch or Watson) McCallum said "You have to be all over Eubanks, you can't let him pose and rest", and another time said "The way to beat Eubanks is to jump on him and not let him up for air". McCallum was not a natural pressure fighter and it would of been playing into Eubank's hands.
