    Have you seen Denis Boytsov?

    Here is his website: http://www.boitcov.com/index.php

The videos show a kid who has talent but also has a confused style. You will notice he is trying to be both a boxer and a slugger, but can't seem to get it right. That is primarily caused by poor training. Somebody like Kevin Rooney would straighten him out and get him on the right track.

Yeah, he's doing ok for a kid of 20 so far. Got years ahead of him if he's got his health. Still a long way to go.

I think it was badblood who posted the entire video of his second most recent fight, the one he was taken the distance in by a South American with an inflated record. I watched it and thought him a potentially interesting fighter, although for some reason too quick to cover up. Physically he is certainly one of the most promising heavies out there.

He needs to work with a better trainer. Unfortunately with all the giants in the heavyweight division these days, this kid is going to have a difficult time competing. He should drop to cruiserweight. At that weight class he will be devastating. He should dominate that division for a few years and wait for some of these huge heavyweights to retire and allow the division to fill up with a bit smaller heavyweights and then move up and look to win the heavyweight title. He can stay at cruiserweight for about 5 years and by that time he will still be young at 25 and then look to move up. By that time Valuev, Klitschko, Briggs will all possibly be retired.

At his current level of skill maybe he would be well advised to drop down a division. Personally I don't see any reason why he couldn't improve his skill set. He makes numerous techincal errors. I don't know how many times I have seen him pull straight back from a lefthook. If he doesn't fix that problem it is just a question of time before somebody hits him flush on the chin. If I was training Boytsov he wouldn't be making these ****** mistakes.

With proper training Boytsov has enough talent to be ready for a title shot by next summer. If Kevin Rooney was training him he would be ready. But at the moment he wouldn't even be a tough sparring partner for Wladimir Klitschko. Boytsov is winning fights despite the horrible training he is getting and the mistakes that he makes because of it. That has to tell you he has lots of potential.

There isn't a lot of trainers who do things the old fashioned way anymore. Young guys these days don't want to go through the tedium of proper training because it is so boring. They would rather pump some iron which is a lot more fun. The eroding skills in boxing is proof that training methods have changed for the worst. That's why I got out of training years ago.

Here is an article about Rooney:
