.....I still say that prime George was sloppy as hell and the Ali fight should not have been that big of a surprise. I love the guy but he swung wild, telegraphed, and clubbed worse than Sam Peter.

imo him not knowing how to pace himself was what lost him that fight more than his punch technique

i disagree - george's intentions were correct. in fact, i had him ahead after 8 rounds. what was he supposed to do? box with the 'boxing master'?

I'm trying to get his Olympic Gold medal fight, I could of swore in that fight he actually looked like a decent boxer, with a hell of a jab...I just want to make sure I was right, hopefully it will be back on ESPN classics

              re abe attell:
big george always wanted to box on his toes. he would often try to do so in sparring and training for a fight but his trainers would scold him and he would then bull through his sparring partners.

you are also right about his jab, imo. he had a heckuva jab. it was more of what a bulldozer is to concrete then a flicking, set-up jab.

So you saw what I saw, POTENTIAL, but for some reason he regressed, at least that is what I thought...have to go back and watch his early fights...Was I right about the Olympic fight?

I think I would of trained him like Wlad/Kostya, with of course to fit George's own natural/raw style...though the way Emanuel trained Lewis wasn't bad either, but not as aggressive...

Then again, Buster Douglas was 6'3 and he bounced around nicely against Tyson...popping that jab and throwing that beautiful combo, over and over and over again

i am not aware of his olympic bouts other then the fact that he blew out every fighter and in the final he won against a russian in the 2nd round via knockout.

i think i would of trained george the exact same. wouldn't of changed a darn thing. part of what made him so lethal was his intensity and how he would intimidate his opponents with his style and presence.
