I don't think anyone would be agreeing with this kind of decision if the WBC had ordered an immediate rematch between Maskaev and Sinal Sam if that eliminator was controversial.

Like previous posters have said, this ties up the top 2 contenders while Maskaev fights a joke. Now Peter won't get to fight Maskaev until next summer at the earliest.

So, no unification bouts with the WBC title involved until AT LEAST next WINTER. More than a year from now, and that's the EARLIEST.

The only hope for a unification fight before then is probably Liahovich/Briggs winner vs. Valuev. Klitschko isn't going to work with any of those three King fighters.

So it will probably go like this: Klitschko beats Brock on Nov.11, Maskaev destroys Othello (sic) in December or January (hopefully, or we'll see a REMATCH of that joke of a fight), Peter-Toney II in February, with the winner getting Maskaev in the summer. Then Klitschko will fight his mandatory (Austin/Ibragimov II winner) next summer, and HOPEFULLY then we'll see WBC/IBF unification next WINTER! That's the BEST CASE SCENARIO for unification outside of Don King, and it will take over a year.

I'm still skeptical that Valuev will give the Liahovich/Briggs winner an immediate fight, he may be "FORCED" to fight the Ruiz/Chagaev winner next spring.

This decision may provide a good fight, and I'll watch for sure, but it is not good for heavyweight boxing.

I hope this **** doesn't happen. Im tired of watching Toney lose and get right back on top as a HW contender. Sam Peter deserves another chance at the title. Toney had many chances already. He steroid with Ruiz and he clearly lost (with a gift draw) to Rahman. Now Peter wins a close fight IMO, and he gets nothing from it. Why so much favoritism for JT. I would love to see Peter and Maskaev.

Peter has never fought for a real title...

It could have been better if they let Peter fight for the title while asking Toney to make another fight against another contender. If Toney wins then a rematch with Peter could be in order.

Peter already earned his rigth to fight for the belt irregardless how controversial it may have been.
Toney earned his right to fight for the title, he was the mandatory before the Peter fight, and large majority felt like he won. I feel like this a great thing that the WBC is willing to correct wrongness. If Peter won't a title shot he is going to have to earn without doubt.

As long as public opinion makes that much difference you may as well just say that a popular fighter can't lose on points.
            .
This isn't judgment by the media, maybe judgment by the masses, but obviously the WBC saw tape of the fight and agreed that Toney was unusally ****d that night by the judges. I agree that their should be some kind of disciplinary action for judges when scorecards deviate like they did in the toney-peter fight and they should have some qualifications and be tested before each fight. But the fact of the matter is that the WBC is trying to bring credibility and honesty to boxing and simply trying to make the right decision.

Why can't Toney just fight his way back like Peter had to do? Why does he keep getting chances to fight for a belt at HW? They should just hand him a belt and let him have it, I mean what else are they going to do to favor this guy in this division. Maybe, it's a desperate attempt to have an American champion.

Buddy I don't think you understand the whole idea of these boxing sites. It's all about changing the sport thats why Doug Fisher started MAXBOXING. You can't just bad mouth everything in the sport. You always have something bad to say even if they r doing something right. If you don't like boxing and you think everything they do is wrong then stop watching it. This is BS and this site should get rid of this writer. Everytime something good happens this clown complains. Your sopposed to let them know when they do something good. Stop showing your picture you poser YOU TRY TOO HARD TO BE SOME COOL GUY. Seriously look at you you try way too hard clown.

                    the point is quite right.

it is however pathetic how the author tries to disguise he hates toney with his guts for the 1st part of the article, but just cant conceal it to the end.
