    Gatti vs. Salita?

    • Promoter Lou DiBella told ESPN.com that Main Events has approached him about the possibility of welterweight star Arturo Gatti (40-8, 31 KOs) facing Dmitriy Salita (25-0-1, 15 KOs) in a comeback fight next year in New York or Atlantic City, N.J. Gatti, who has one fight remaining on his HBO deal, is on a long break following a ninth-round knockout loss to welterweight champ Carlos Baldomir July 22. Salita, who won a fight Thursday night, is a popular ticket seller in New York, and it's a fight DiBella said would be a major regional draw. "Salita has heart and can punch, and it would sell an extraordinary amount of tickets in the tri-state area," he said. "Salita sells tickets and Gatti, the cult figure, sells a ton of tickets. Five years ago, it's a mismatch [in Gatti's favor]. Now, this is a fight. It's a great ethnic rivalry, too. Salita has all the ***ish fans supporting him and everyone knows Gatti is huge with the Italian fans." Main Events' Carl Moretti, who has expressed his wish for Gatti to retire, had no comment.

Oh ****, this would be a hot fight. Its gonna sound blasphemous, but I might go with Salita. Salita is younger and fresher, and other than that I think Gatti's worn out. Salita has proven very little as a pro, other than that he has some good skills and that the judges like him in NY. He's a very nice guy and has a good amateur background, but hes stepping WAAAY up in competition against Gatti. Props to Dmitriy for taking this step up. When I spoke with him last month, he said he wanted to fight the winner of the Ben Rabbah fight or something like that. Heres an interview I did with him, he's mad cool peoples.

Arturo should wake up and realise that he simply does not have anything left. He's one of the most entertaining fighters in history but he's got a family now and he should seriously re-consider stepping into the ring again.

as f'ed up as it sounds for the prospect, I don't think Salita can handle Gatti..
Salita is just not at that level.

Gatti is a C+ fighter, and I would not rate Salita more than that, but Gatti is an experienced C+, where Salita is still very green

this would be a great fight, I tihnk there a 2 sides to Salita he has the greatest potential to be a great fighter but hes been very incosistent as of late, I dont know I would have to go with Salita on this one...
