Well, I guess Chomsky is happy his ideas are gettin out there to the public, I guess ... The guy has been writing political commentary since the 60s in essay format at least, and some of his books like "Necessary Illusions" and "Manufacturing Consent" are incredible. This guy really is intelligent. He's a master of linguistics, and we can think him for doing a lot of the work that led to compiler theory and sophisticated programming languages. I just don't understand what he's doing associating himself with that wacko. He's made his name doing the university circuit and lecturing to all kinds of influential people. Perhaps in his old age he's gone a little off the deep end.
Help???

The two books I listed I find the most interesting. He likes to write a lot about foreign policy and stuff like that, but I find his writings/lectures about the nature of propaganda and mass media the most interesting. The one Chavez recommended, Hegemoney or Survival, I have not read. It's about the US stated ambitions of bringing democracy to the world, and how it does not always coincide with it's economic interests etc.Comment

I grew up in venezuala and when I was there people were so despoticly poor it made you physically ill. Chavez being a socialist has created programs from what I have heard to help these people, granted it is in his own self intrest but they are there and he is a strong leader in his country somthing venezuala has not really had. As far as the international scene he has very little power out side one vital resource but has absolutly no ability to dictate anything outside his country. South America has always been hostile to the U.S so Chavez is nothing new. I'm just giveing another point of view. he is no threat to the U.S just like Cuba is not a threat. The man just likes to hear himself talk and he can go home "thinking" he is one bad hombre.Venezuela Dictator Vows To Bring Down U.S. Government
Venezuela government is sole owner of Citgo gasoline company
Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez has vowed to bring down the U.S. government. Chavez, president of Venezuela, told a TV audience: "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."
The guest on his television program, beamed across Venezuela, was Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar activist. Chavez recently had as his guest Harry Belafonte, who called President Bush "the greatest ********* in the world"
Chavez is pushing a socialist revolution and has a close alliance with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
Regardless of your feelings about the war in Iraq, the issue here is that we have a socialist dictator vowing to bring down the government of the U.S. And he is using our money to achieve his goal!
The Venezuela government, run by dictator Chavez, is the sole owner of Citgo gas company. Sales of products at Citgo stations send money back to Chavez to help him in his vow to bring down our government.
Take Action
Please decide that you will not be shopping at a Citgo station. Why should U.S. citizens who love freedom be financing a dictator who has vowed to take down our government?
Very important. Please forward this to your friends and family. Most of them don't know that Citgo is owned by the Venezuela government.
YOU CAN VERIFY THIS ON THE CITGO WEB PAGE.
