We do not have the power to change the rules in boxing, but often we feel there is something that needs to or should be changed.
Let me list some ideas I have, please feel free to add some of your own ideas and comment on the ones posted.
- A knockdown should cost a boxer more than 1 or 2 points. Usually when there is one knockdown in a round, it results in a 10:8 round (maybe even only a 10:9 round, if the one boxer who got knocked down was still the more dominant man). In my opinion that is not right, a knockdown really demonstrates dominance to a more extreme extent than a point or two difference.
- Make scores public after every round. The judges' scores should be made public for all to see after every single round. Maybe this will reduce or even prevent potential "robberies".
- Only ONE world champion in each division, and the champs should have to box at least three times a year - two mandatories and one voluntary defense (not top15, though, but top10). Four big organizations is too much, one is enough.
- Less weight classes. We currently have 17 divisions, too many for my taste.
- No more holding. Constant holding is annoying and ******. When you are hurt, you clinch, that's totally fine. But no boxer should be allowed to do it whenever the opponent comes close.
