    Arturo Gatti

    Arturo Gatti News

Promoter Lou DiBella told ESPN.com that Main Events has approached him about the possibility of welterweight star Arturo Gatti (40-8, 31 KOs) facing Dmitriy Salita (25-0-1, 15 KOs) in a comeback fight next year in New York or Atlantic City, N.J. Gatti, who has one fight remaining on his HBO deal, is on a long break following a ninth-round knockout loss to welterweight champ Carlos Baldomir July 22. Salita, who won a fight Thursday night, is a popular ticket seller in New York, and it's a fight DiBella said would be a major regional draw. "Salita has heart and can punch, and it would sell an extraordinary amount of tickets in the tri-state area," he said. "Salita sells tickets and Gatti, the cult figure, sells a ton of tickets. Five years ago, it's a mismatch [in Gatti's favor]. Now, this is a fight. It's a great ethnic rivalry, too. Salita has all the ***ish fans supporting him and everyone knows Gatti is huge with the Italian fans." Main Events' Carl Moretti, who has expressed his wish for Gatti to retire, had no comment.

Why SHOULDNT he take this fight? Its a nice little way to go out with a win. And its not like Gatti cant take care of himself, He beat thomas daamgard 2 fights ago if you dont remember.

in the article its quoted as saying "5 years ago its a mismatch..now its a fight"?...gatti no matter the year could ever beat mayweather or baldomir..mayweather is too good..and you cant slug with a bigger man like baldomir

gatti's been counted out before. i have mixed emotions about him fighting again.

but no matter what he does, i'll back gatti 'til the bitter end.

Damn, thats a good match-up. I caught a glimpse on Boxrec right after his fight thrusday of him fighting Santana next than it went away. I guess this is a great match up for an up and comer. Salita in 7

Gatti needs to retire, before he becomes a stepping stone
