Arturo Gatti News
Promoter Lou DiBella told ESPN.com that Main Events has approached him about the possibility of welterweight star Arturo Gatti (40-8, 31 KOs) facing Dmitriy Salita (25-0-1, 15 KOs) in a comeback fight next year in New York or Atlantic City, N.J. Gatti, who has one fight remaining on his HBO deal, is on a long break following a ninth-round knockout loss to welterweight champ Carlos Baldomir July 22. Salita, who won a fight Thursday night, is a popular ticket seller in New York, and it's a fight DiBella said would be a major regional draw. "Salita has heart and can punch, and it would sell an extraordinary amount of tickets in the tri-state area," he said. "Salita sells tickets and Gatti, the cult figure, sells a ton of tickets. Five years ago, it's a mismatch [in Gatti's favor]. Now, this is a fight. It's a great ethnic rivalry, too. Salita has all the ***ish fans supporting him and everyone knows Gatti is huge with the Italian fans." Main Events' Carl Moretti, who has expressed his wish for Gatti to retire, had no comment.
