Johnny Nelson reliquinshes WBO belt; Maccarinelli to take title

Johnny Nelson has picked up a back injury prior to his postponed defence against Maccarinelli for the WBO Cruiserweight title. As a result he's had to reliquinish the belts (according to the BBC website) and - pending the sanctioning body's approval - it will be given to Enzo.

I must confess to have only seen half a round of Johnny Nelson boxing (though he looked surprisingly aggressive in contrast to what I'd heard).

I've seen Enzo a number of times and he's reasonably heavy handed and skilled, though doesn't have the greatest chin. If David Haye wanted to pick up a relatively easy belt, then he could go that route, but I expect he'll hold onto his WBC mandatory status instead.

Maccarinelli will do what he did in March - fight on the Calzaghe undercard, and against Mark Hobson. The first was a good scrap, so I don't see any reason why the second won't follow the same route.

Hobson was dropped by Buster Keaton, hopefully hes improved. But i bet its not the same feeling as taking the title off the champ. Bet on cheap easy defenses to pad out the record.

Both chins are suspect, same with their stamina.

Haye is a far bigger puncher though.

Thats a shame, I was looking forward to that fight.

I missed the first Hobson Macca fight, but after seeing Hobson in action earlier this month, i don't think theres really much point in this fight happening again.

as for david haye, i thought mormeck was the mandatory WBC challenger now?

Sorry, I meant he'll be the mandatory challenger to the winner of Mormeck-Bell II. Though he has to fight an eliminator for it.
