To me it's neither. You can be a high volume light puncher like Ouma, or someone who can land fewer, harder shots like Trinidad. It's the effect those punches have on the opponent.
Ouma uses his high volume to keep opponents off balance, and is quite often ore effective than someone like Sechew Powell, who hits much harder.

it what i love about boxing
it all depends what the fighter your rootin for is doin
always room fro debate in boxing
      whats more important
      what wins a fight
skill power speed work rate percentage effectiveness clean
no matter how a fight goes
u can make some sorta claim for ur fighter
      to me its simple
its an unexplainable blend off all
      a little bit of everything
no one thing is more important then the other
just like the other ultimate boxing question
      what makes a great fighter?

is it a matter of opinion or a matter of fact?

help me out here. what do you guys think?
Judges have one shot of watching the fight and scoring it, no matter how good these judges are, crowd always plays a part on their decisions. Hard punches excite crowds more than volume punches, that's a fact.

That is the most reasonable answer in the thread

I agree. However, there is never going to be a happy medium. If a fighter is using his jab to great effect, and is effective throughout a round but is suddenly rocked by a few hard shots in the last 30 seconds does he lose the round? Of course not, but you never know with some judges. Obviously there have been plenty of debatable decisions throughout boxing history. For example; Leonard/Hagler, i would score for Leonard.

I put a higher premium on the quality (harder) of punches because a well placed one can stop and win you the fight. It (they) can also wear down the opponent for an eventual TKO.

Might as well just be asking "Hopkins or Calzaghe?" for this one.
