Guzman-Barrios:
I'm in utter shock that anyone could have had Barrios winning the fight.. i'll come back to this fight later
On the Vasquez-Gonzalez fight:
Gonzalez did very well in the first half of the fight, he showed excellent ring generalship, keeping Vasquez, for the most part, on the end of his jab through most of the first of of the fight.. heading towards the 10th, i thought the HBO team was seriously riding on Gonzalez way too much, as it was beginning to become obvious that Gonzalez was losing steam from about the 7th leading to the 10th round stoppage. I thought it was a smart stoppage by the corner, in that Vasquez looked like he could continue his power through the 10th and into the final two rounds, while Gonzalez seemed to lose alot off his punches coming down the stretch and seemed to be geniunely hurt after the knockdown that stopped the fight. Keep in mind that while Gonzalez is the longer man (which HBO thought they'd repeat 5 times a round) Vasquez would seemingly be the stonger of the two, as it was Gonzalez coming up in weight.
I couldn't help but get alittle steamed from my television as one of the announcers said Gonzalez was, "waiting for the count" after the corner threw in the towel.
People, when you wait for the count, the fallen fighter is typically sitting up, facing the ref, with his hands up to his chest. Gonzalez was looking over at his corner, slumped over, and seemed to almost "instinctively" get up as he heard Bayless say the number "8". For those fans that were upset with the stoppage, please don't be pulled in by the HBO broadcast team, if you watched the fight on mute, you can clearly see Vasquez start to pull back into the fight around rounds 6-7.. great effort by Gonzalez, but greater determination by Israel Vasquez.
On the Barrera-Juarez fight:
What more can you say about MAB? Put on exactly the performance i thought he would. He maintained control virtually the entire fight, keeping the jab consistent and never allowing Juarez to be in the fight. I was kindof surprised by Juarez's post-fight comments as he has no one to blame but himself. I'm sure he was speaking out of frustration. I thought it was nice to see Barrera trying out english in the post-fight comments. Yet another reason why Barrera's a top P4P guy in the sport.
