    Figuring out Boxing Betting Odds

Now, I've been following and/or participatiing in boxing since I was about 7 years old, but I have a dumb question:

What the hell do the boxing odds in Vegas mean? I know the 3 to 1 stuff, but I don't quite get the +126, -162 stuff. Can someone please explain?

    Thanks

The basics are if you are betting for -162 means you like the favorite and you have to bet 162 to win 100 bucks. but if you bet for +126, you are going for the underdog and means you bet 100 and win 126. + could means you are picking a draw. like + 200. you bet 100 and win 200.

exactly, and in boxing you usually have over and under bets example: 8 1/2 in which you choose if the fight goes over eight and a half rounds or under eight and a half,

          dagger is correct.

here's an example with mayweather-baldomir (by pinnaclesports)

          Floyd Mayweather Jr -551
          Carlos Manuel Baldomir +501

Negative means that Floyd is favored. It also means you put down $551 to win $100 if Floyd wins.

Positive means Carlos is the underdog. It also means you put down $100 to win $501 if Carlos wins.

Obviously the Floyd bet is horrible. Putting down $551 to win just $100 is crazy.

Like I said before, if you're absolutely positive Baldomir KO's Floyd, now is a great time to put the money down. You lay down $200 and you can walk away with just over a $1000.

Thanks guys. Now its time for me to lose a fortune!

Seriously, if those Mayweather/Baldomir odds are right it might be time to place a small wager on Baldomir. I got a feeling about this one...

Don't place a bet on Baldomier, you could lose a lot of money. Floyd has too much over Baldomier.

It'd be alright it Baldomier had more then a very slim chance of winning.

Floyd has shown he can stay on the outside, he has shown that he can stay on the inside for bit. Floyd doesn't have a lot of power, but he can get your respect. I don't see anything Baldomier can do to defeat Floyd.
