Show of hands... who feels that Witter "ran" from Judah?

I've heard this view reiterated countless times on here, yet I always regard it as a myth almost approaching the levels of Ali-Cooper and the three minute search for a replacement glove. (Which never actually happened).

I was searching for a clip online, but there's nothing out there, so I'm hoping that those who vote will be those that actually SAW the fight.

I always think Witter - a guy whose fanclub meeting could be held in a telephone box, even in his home town - was dealt a bad card that night. He took the fight on at a week's notice after never having been past eight rounds in his career before. Essentially he was doing Judah a favour by stepping in, but it's backfired as - despite building a 18 (15 KOs) record and becoming the European and Commonwealth champion since the Judah fight - he's had to wait over SIX YEARS for another title shot.

When he fought Judah he bizarrely had no power with just 4 TKOs out of 15 wins going in, against lesser competition. God knows how he's improved in that regard, but despite all this, I DON'T for a minute think that he "ran" from Judah.

It's been a while since I saw it, but I remember even in the last round he was relatively in the pocket with Zab. Bear in mind that it's not in Witter's fighting style to be going toe-to-toe or trading body shots in a corner... though neither was/is it Ali or Floyd's, generally.

    So, enough rambling on.. vote.

Witter is one of my fav fighters, He took the Judah fight on 9 days notice, (I scored the fight 116-112 for Judah) he was green, never really fought tough competition before, etc. Witter was'nt really a hitter back then, he changed his style recently. I think he can give Judah a good fight right now, as for the Corley fight...

    Witter by 10th round TKO

"ran" is a huge overstatement. he didn't exactly trade or fight like a "man" which is probably why the fans are sarcastic alot of the time when referring to witter and the circumstances around this fight. he did not "run", though. "running" is what corey spinks does.

9 days notice, a weeks notice...the point is he took the fight and yes he ran, his performance was absolutely embarrassing.

        However...

He has obviously taken a good look in the mirror and gone back to the drawing board...only to return a changed fighter.

hje has beaten some decent comp as of late and although he is not very active I would venture to say that he gives Zab all he could handle currently and quite possibly stops Super.

Her ran against Judah there can be no doubt but give the kid credit, he's back and he appears better then ever...to steel a line from "The Neverending Story"

"Its like the Nothing never was" Judah was obviously the nothing.

I still don't get the whole "run" thing... especially as people who say that are usually the same people who praise Hopkins's 20th defence as a boxing masterclass.
