How much of this story is true?

After Hopkins tossed the flag on the ground at the presser in Puerto Rico, he was public enemy No. 1. A riot erupted immediately. Hopkins, literally, ran for his life.

"I ran and fought at the same time," he says. "I got three or four KOs on the way out."
To this day, Hopkins thanks the man upstairs that no one packing a shank attacked him.
"God was on my shoulders," he says.
Hopkins and his small entourage, which included his trainer, 73-year-old Bouie Fisher, were shuffled into a dressing room in the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, while the angry mob tried to break down the door. They sweated it out for about 20 minutes and then were hustled into cars for the airport. Hopkins tossed on an overcoat, bucket hat and sunglasses to mask his identity, but at the airport, the security personnel and the pilots knew what had happened and knew who he was. CNN made sure of it. But public enemy No. 1 made it home.

I have seen a short clip of the flag tossing in Puerto Rico and it shows a mob trying to hit Hopkins but he ran along with security. Did Hopkins really KO four people on the way out? Did a riot that big occur where the people couldn't be controlled? This is the first I heard of this.

By the way here is the link to the full story.

The biggest win of Bernard Hopkins' career took place in the aftermath of 9/11. The Hopkins-Trinidad bout would mean even more to the Big Apple, Michael Woods writes.

I saw the same clip but I didn't see Hopkins hit anybody or KO anybody for that matter.

I know that he has since gone to Puerto Rico and apologized for it. I do know much about what happened after he threw the flag down, but I can see what was described above as being possible.

ROFL, I could only imagine what was going through Hopkins head at that conference.

He was probably thinking "Ok let me hype this fight and throw Tito's flag on the floor and the fight will probably get another 50k sales in Puerto Rico and NYC".......

Then he is like " WTF " and he thinks "thank god the Exit sign is written in english"

I think it was a tasteless, miscalculated publicity stunt in which he didn't mean to offend PR's as bad as he did.

I also believe it is very possible that he had to swing at a few people but I DOUBT that he paid that much attention to see if he KO'd people. He probably just swung and kept moving without looking back.

I can't believe you all don't remember this incident. It was talked about forever and a day. I still think the whole situation is hilarious.
