Originally posted by orltroyAllright Grayfist sounds like the man I want to talk to. I am doing a piece on John and want to know everything I can from personal to professional and I'm currently awaiting fight footage myself. But footage doesn't tell me about his background, so any help there brother? I know most Indonesians are ****** so being a Christian is a different path.
It is my wish, though, that boxing's popularity can engulf Indonesia-- a country so densely populated it makes one wonder why no significant effort has been visible to market the sport there. Moreover, boxing by its very nature can serve as a catharsis for a large chunk of the population's pent up emotions... It can serve some social good. While Indonesians and John can perhaps initiate work in this direction, the leaders of worldwide boxing should see that making Indonesia part of the world boxing map is in the sport's best interest.
As far as John growing up in a predominantly ****** country (so predominant, Indonesia is considered the biggest ****** nation in the world), I am nearly sure that it would be, at least, an "interesting" study and deserves a piece to be written. I sure am glad that you have set your sights on such a project. I just regret I cannot be of some help though I thank you for thinking I can be.
Edit: I don't know if you'll consider this shot in the dark: There's a certain Jeff Pamungkas who filed the report on *********.com re John's victory over Acosta recently; it is said that he filed that report from ringside. I don't know him but I'm guessing he's Jakarta-based. The people at ********* may help you get connected with him.
I'm afraid this is the best I can do.Last edited by grayfist; 09-11-2006, 08:24 PM.

I justo got done watching the Chris John-Marquez fight and watched it very closely. I came up with this.
Round 1: 10-9 Marquez
Round 2: 10-9 Marquez
Round 3: 10-9 John
Round 4: 10-9 John
Round 5: 10-9 Marquez
Round 6: 10-9 John
Round 7: 10-9 John
Round 8: 10-9 Marquez
Round 9: 10-9 Marquez
Round 10: 10-8 John
Round 11: 10-8 John
Round 12: 10-9 Marquez
Chris John: 114
J M Marquez: 112
I scored the fight 6 rounds a piece and John won because the low blow point deduction. I think the deductions were legit, Marquez' clearly landed some low blows and at least 1 point deduction made sense, and I cant complain about 2. I feel Chris John won this fight fair and square. Just because they were in Indionesia doesnt mean it was a hometown decision.
These two were very evenly matched. I really enjoyed this fight, wasnt very exciting but very tactical. Both fighters fought very smart. John is a very good fighter and I do feel he is very underrated. He beat Marquez fair and square. I would love to see a rematch in America on Showtime maybe. These two match up well.

I think hes the best 126 pounder. Marquez was the best and John beat him fair and square. Therefore hes the top dog now. I do want to see a rematch of taht fight though, or a fight with Cook or Harrison.
