This is a close one to call.
The cagey, quick-handed countering style of southpaw Corley against the awkward, switch-hitting Junior Witter.
Neither have been active of late, and neither are spring chickens. Corley has failed every time he's come up against the creme of the creme, but IMO Witter is not a 12-round fighter or even an six-round fighter, and will have to take out Corley in four or five rounds at the most. He lacks stamina, IMO, Witter, if you check out the N'Dou fight where he often ran out of steam.
Witter looked very lacklustre (compared to his '15-fight KO streak then beating N'Dou more impressively than Cotto' form) in his last two fights, but IMO it was a lot down to the fact that he struggled to get motivated for those opponents. Corley rocked Cotto and Mayweather, so he's no slouch and has a solid punch. A lot of you will remember Witter from the Judah fight, running away for 12 rounds like a little *****, but he improved after that by sitting down on his shots more and was switched into what Brendan Ingle calls an "attacking counter-puncher".
It would be easy to say that Witter is the slightly sharper and flashier and that should just lead him to a decision, but IMO if Witter doesn't get Corley out of there in four or five rounds (or less) he'll be losing steam, and getting frustrated in the second half of the fight. I see Witter looking to potshot from the off, looking for the big stuff, and I see Corley stealing early rounds. I just see Witter losing steam and making frustrated lunges after seven, eight, nine rounds thus leaving himself open to be tagged with some solid ****, and taken out.
If Witter wins, I think he wins early, because the last thing to lose a fighter is his punch. But Corley seems to have a pretty solid chin.
Corley late TKO Witter.
