I meant no offense. I just remember when he fought Rahman the first time, Merchant and Lampley were talking about how he was a "fugitive". Russia was capitalist then, too.

    Just a question.
Actually, I am eastern european, but since all people from ther are callled russians, then yeah you are right, I am of russian descent.

Naah, they were overexagerating that ****.
Something about Kostya Tszyu, one of the reasons he left Russia in early 90s was that he had problems with law and huge financial desparities, nobody ever saw nothing in him, even tho he was one of the best ams Russia ever produced, now when he became big on a world boxing scene, Russia suddenly recognised him as her son and great russian athlete. That is how it works there, at least used to. Recent flow of eastern european athletes is largely to Klitschko brothers making a breakthrough on the world arena back in late 90s. Before them, nobody ever though that eastern european fighters would be any match to Westerners(and yes, I mean Lewis westerner).

Thanks for straightening that out for me.....and, for what it's worth, I feel where you're coming from. To be Eastern European by decent and hear all of the pshaws thrown towards Easter European fighters over the years had to be no only annoying but downright angering at points...and it feels good to have a fighter of similar heritage prove the western critics and fans wrong, even better, now that it's four and they are controlling the fate of the heavyweigth division, which has been dominated for so long by the U.S. while Eastern Europeans weren't even allowed to compete on a professional level.

      So, kudos to your boys.

            **** that.

Did you think I like Roy Jones because of my avatar? Does me sporting that image come off as someone who supports Roy Jones over other quality fighters? It's not him lookin' hard, it's more like him lookin' dead.

On the real though, 10/10 people (who aren't Russian) would rather watch Roy fight over Maskaev's big oaf ass.

LMAO, Roy Jones! Roy Jones! OMG! Calm down now, it's just a forum.

I agree. The champs should have some defenses in places like Moscow, and they should give Russian prospects a shot, in particular those two. There are already plenty of American fringe contenders and contenders in the mix for title fights (Barret, Beck - already had one, Brock, etc.) and being American should not be an advantage. There will be plenty of fights in America, and there is no need for us to complain about big fights going abroad.
In any case Maskaev is probably only going to have 1-3 defenses, so he should take one in Russia now if he is ever going to do it. It's not the same situation as Wlad as in, who has a real chance to sell himself to the American public as champ.

I actually think Maskaev is fun to watch. Glad he's fighting sooner than we thought.

I have a feeling Maskaev is going to fight Krasniqi...........

I can't see him fighting another Russian/Soviet unless its Wlad or Nikolai, but he will fight a Euro fighter with a decent reputation.

Took the words right out of my mouth...

No way will Maskaev fight another Russian in Russia. That will make him the intruder and a foreigner, and they will treat him as a Russian American, as this is who he is.

But if he fights anyone other than a Russian, or a former Soviet.. People will look at him as fellow countryman... hero...

                    Sick logic heh?
