... I like the Ring a lot, it's always readable, has a good mix of features, and is aware that boxing writing is allowed to amuse on occasion, too.
My only complaint with the magazine is its slight tendency to overhype boxers while pretending to be neutral (cos they gotta earn a buck, right? Look at this issue with its cover story on a past-his-best Mosley, who they're building up as fully back in the frame) and the fact that the fights covered are usually so far behind the publish date. Boxing Monthly has been known to cover fights even up to a fortnight before its release. The Ring is only just now giving us a write-up of Valuev-Beck.
But it's a relatively small complaint and this is a good issue, including interviews with Wlad and a 25th anniversary special on Leonard-Hearns.
Also featured in the back pages is an update on the life and times of Chris Eubank. Stories broke in the news today that an unnamed suspect was arrested in Leamington Spa, England, for covering three copies of The Ring with his own semen. Not only were two newsagents being treated for shock, but the magazines could not be resold as the pages were stuck together.
JuyJuy, if this was you, my advice is to buy a copy and take it home, then cover it with clingfilm so you can have a wipe-clean copy for multiple use. Just a friendly tip.
