Again I have to completly disagree . Most of the rounds were won by Ali. I had him up by 3 rounds. Foreman was punching punching punching and either not landing, or not doing any damage. When Ali went to work it was classic! Not only WERE they landing, but they were taking a toll on foreman and doing damage. Foreman looked slow and ponderous. I've watched the fight several times and I really get a feel for the event and appriciate and admire what Ali was doing in there. To say that Foreman would have won on points is just crazy! Past the 4th round he was ****ED!!!!

Yeah Foreman's punches weren't doing damage but I think the judges were scoring for Foreman. I believe Ali's trainer Angelo Dundee believed he was losing too.

If Ali didn't KO Big George that night, then George would have been unrecognizable by the end of round 15. Ali was hitting Foreman with the sharpest and most accurated punches I've ever seen a heavyweight throw. If you guys remember, by the time Ali had KOed Foreman his face was so puffy from all of Ali's jabs and right crosses.

thats true but i did mean if ali had lost the fight

he would then have gone after jimmy young in his fight rather than trying to pace himself and barely throwing any punches

he would almost certainly have taken jimmy young out within 6 rounds

i dont believe larry holmes had the tools to put away foreman he wasn't fleet footed enough to stay away( even ali couldn't) and he didn't have the durability to do what ali did

if it wasn;t for ali i would have expected foreman to possibly beat joe louis' record for the longest title reign

            He'd still be champ now!...

No, even for the Ali fight all Foreman was thinking about was the $5M he was gonna get. I think if Foreman beat Ali he would have continued to destroy guys and just do less unless training. In the end he would be over confident and get beat by a underdog. possibly young or someone else.

            it's impossible to tell.

Okay, because you didn't clarify, I'd say Ali would have won a decision had Foreman actually beaten the count and somehow survived the remaining seven rounds.

But, if you mean what would have happened had Foreman beaten Ali, then I think either Jimmy Young...if he'd gotten a title shot, would have beaten Foreman, or Larry Holmes in 1977. Other possible candidates are Michael Dokes, Greg Page...not likely; but possible, and Tim Witherspoon by the early 1980's. However, Larry Holmes is your best bet because Norton would NEVER beat Foreman, neither would Tate nor Bobick.

                Norton, probably around 1976.

Nah I doubt Norton would have fought George again. Even if he did Geore would likely have whacked him out early, much like Shavers and Cooney did. Holmes or Young are the best bets as they have the skills and more importantly the chins to get the job done.

Holmes would have taken the title from him in probably 77. People underestimate Holmes but by that time he would have been a beast and George would have been beaten.

                      Holmes is my first guess.
