    Warren: Taylor's management refused Calzaghe

BBC, Sport, BBC Sport, bbc.co.uk, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

I am a big fan of Joe Calzaghe and believe he is truly a world-class boxer. What do you say to those who accuse him (and you by association) of dodging the biggest American names over the years?
    Owen Wheatley, Southampton

Hi Owen - well, Joe hasn't dodged anybody. It was well documented that Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones dodged him, as has Markus Beyer, the current WBC champion. Joe has fought all the best that America has had to offer. Jermain Taylor's management have refused a fight. Joe can only beat who is put in front of him.

Funny how almost everyone who was put in front of him was an average fighter in his own back yard.

If Joe had done what Hatton's doing now by going to the US years ago, his claims might have some merrit.

Calling out Marquee fighters years ago when he had no resume to speak of and demanding they come and fight him in his back yard is the same as not wanting a fight.

Calzaghe never wanted any part of those fighters, and all of your quoting isn't going to change that.

      Oh, and Taylor's a middleweight.

Why not look for Kessler or a top fighter at 175?

I really like how he was suddenly interested in Tarver after Hopkins humiliated him, but prior to that was calling Glen Johnson to drop to 168.

Calzaghe is a good fighter and he had a great win this year, but he's still never faced anything close to an elite fighter in their prime.

Firstly, stop making alt accounts such as 'superchamp' etc

Calzaghe called out Jones Jr and Hopkins after every fight and I agree that we can't blame them for not fighting him, because they would of lost.

This coming from the twat who's made over 25 alternate accounts that were coming from the same IP address identified by the mods.

Roy Shaw, Cabbage, Al Murray, PugalisticPolarbear, JuyJuy, JuicyJuice, Moschino, etc.

Those are only the usual suspects.

I have never had an Alt. And that's pretty rich coming from Cpt. Alt, don't you think?

You can say whatever you want. He was a homer with a **** resume calling out eliter fighters to come and fight him in his back yard.

That's the same thing as not wanting the fights.

If he wanted those kind of fights, he would have done what Hatton's doing now and flew over to the US to start building a name in bigger fights.

He didn't do that because he had no interest.

Now, at 34, his career defining fight was agaisnt a green fighter, and he's yet to share the ring with an elite fighter in their prime.

When it's all said and done you'll have nothing but these "what if's".

Unfortunate but true. It is and always will be hard for a European fighter to get any recognition from the public in the states. One of the reasons:- They dont often get a chance to prove themselves against the best in the states
