What would be yalls list of 8 HW contender fighters?
The Contender HW Edition

I'd like to see this, but with certain criteria. For example, the oldest any participant can be is 25, no one with more than 15 pro fights, the majority undefeated fighters. Also if they could get a few European based guys over, or anywhere else for that matter, they could have the first round with that ring to it "America vs. The World" for the global audience, not just 16 American-based fighters.
Also giving the fighters a longer rest inbetween each fight should help a little, maybe organise all first round fights straight off the bat so that fighters can start training there-on in, have all first round fights on two cards over the space of one weekend, then let the guys have 2 weeks off from fighting atleast whilst the show starts all that dramatic crap.
I heard the latest fight on the Contender, the two fighters only had 3 days rest between their fights. That is bad if it's true.Comment

But Eddie Chambers and Tony Thompson? These are the kind of uninspiring guys that make me turn off the heavyweights. Chambers can't punch or move his upper body at all. I've seen this kid at the Blue Horizon a bunch of times, and each time its the saaaaaaaaaaaaame fight.Originally posted by badbloodI agree, thats why my list if full of young talent.
Thompson is a born spoiler. I find it hard to get into his fights.Comment

I like Chambers and Thompson. Eddie has great foot work and works behind a great jab and follows with fast combos and his defense is pretty god damn good if you ask me, yes he lacks power but so what if he can box. Thompson reminds me a lot of a younger Oliver McCall.Originally posted by Asian SensationBut Eddie Chambers and Tony Thompson? Definatly agree with you there man. The heavies are really lacking guys with skill and amateur experience these days.Originally posted by Asian SensationThis is exactly true. The heavyweights nowadays have no amateur background by and large, and you simply cannot fight if you don't have an amateur background. The amateurs is where a fighter perfects his skills, particularly keeping your balance and footwork while throwing punches. Since most of them have no footwork, they can't throw punches in combination because they'd fall off balance. If you don't have balance and footwork, they're gonna clinch in situations better schooled fighters would throw punches. Not to mention, 230 pound guys aren't typically ballerinas.Comment

None of these guys would hold most folks attention. The smaller weights are ideal for the Contender show. They move more, throw more punches etc.
Watching two plodding heavyweights throw 10 punches a round would plumet the ratings.Comment

Chambers throws nothing but arm punches, and he doesn't use his jab for offense. He throws his jab to keep his man busy while he waits to throw something. If he's gonna use that peekaboo style, he needs to come forward. Otherwise, he's gonna find himself in alot of trouble because he lets his man throw too many punches, and hes not strong enough to take that kind of pressure.Originally posted by badbloodI like Chambers and Thompson. I don't get how McCall and Thompson are similar. McCall was a guy whose only real weapon was his quick right hand, which was a beast. Thompson has nowhere near that power. Thompson is a strictly hit and run guy. He moves around alot and his sole intention is to frustrate his opponent. Inadvertently, he consistently frustrates me as well.Comment
