Sam Peter, how much is he eating?

why isnt anyone asking what kind of shape sam peter is in?

he has steadily gained weight since losing to klitschko, so many people are wondering if toney will come in at 240 when they should be wondering if sam peter is gonna come in at 265.

peter hasnt knocked out every man he has faced, charles shufford and juvo pudor both made it the distance and i think toney is obviously much better than either.

i see alot of predictions being based on "sooner or later peter will hit him with a real heavyweight shot and its goodnight" but the fact of the matter is that if Sam Peter comes in fat he wont have power past the 5th or 6th round, and if it gets to that point hes gonna get worked over down the stretch.

im not betting on anyone until the weigh in, and when it happens i will be watching for sam peters with great intent. he should know he needs to be closer to 240 than 260 to win this fight, if he comes in fat i dont believe he has dedicated himself to winning the match.

And Larry Merchant chases vodka with whiskey, does that matter? Yes.

i think peter has gotten a bit smarter throughout his last few fights and waits for an opportunity to throw bombs just a bit more than he used to. and i do think he has power in the later rounds, he just doesn't throw as many "real" power punches past round six or so. his punches also seem to get a little sloppier after the first few rounds even though they are not very technically proficient to begin with.

if toney wants to win this fight, one thing he has to do is try to get peter throwing a lot early into the fight and work off counters as peter becomes increasingly sloppy or careless/impatient as the fight moves on.

I dont think he'll kayo toney either. peter has good power but its clubbing power. he's not a sharp puncher and you can usually see his shots coming and roll with them. I think he could push toney around enough to win a decision if toney comes in lazy. Im still leaning on a decision victory for toney but I think he is going to have a tough time with the physical size and strength of peter

I dunno why everyone gets on Merchant's case about drinking. When I get that age I'm gonna get Drunk. All. The. Time. Maybe someday I will be a boxing commentator myself and when I get to be an old geezer I will carry on the Merchant legacy. And no one will be able to do anything about it, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Maybe he is, but I figure hey, he still does his job, and does it better than Lampley or Lewis or whoever else they have filling in for Foreman at the time. If he can do his job with a few martinis in him, what's the harm, you know?

i shudder when i think of a sober merchant. his half drunken inspired comments are part of his charm. he may not be the most agreeable person all the time, but he is fun to listen to unlike lewis, kellerman, and kermit the frog.
