Shocking defeat. I think really the referee made a good call. Lewis seemed well aware of what was going on and may have had a clear head, but it was also clear his legs had gone from under him. I think he may have been able to hang on and survive to the end of the round, but also who is to say that McCall wouldn't have landed another one of those haymakers. It was 50/50 really.
I was always dissapointed with the rematch more than anything. Lewis went about the situation in a perfect manner, attempting to avenge his loss and all, but McCall was just too willing to give up without much of a fight which tainted the win a little, although when people look back in 20-30 years time all they'll say is a Lewis TKO victory.

Yeah but you have to remember the events leading up to the rematch. Oliver McCall was in rehab for his on going drug problem and he was literally dragged out of rehab and into the ring by the Lewis camp and the WBC. Very classless thing to do by both party's. There was no way McCall was going to win that rematch, none whatsoever. McCall was suffering from withdrawal symptoms and that is why he broke down. The fight should have been called a "no contest" but the WBC was not having it. They were itching for Lewis to hold their title again.

Indeed that does sound bad when you put it in those blunt terms lol. I would have liked to have seen Lennox Lewis get the rematch against a 100% focused Oliver McCall and regain the title fairly & squarely. It would have been alot more creditable a win no doubt. At the same time, you just have to take things as they come I suppose. It was not Lennox's fault that McCall was on all kinds of drugs and going through all this mayhem outside of the ring, Lennox kept his side of the bargain, and was fully entitled to demand his shot, afterall he had given McCall a shot to start with.
Something else you need to remember. After McCall defeated Lewis to become WBC champ, McCall lost to Frank Bruno. Then Bruno fought Mike Tyson and Tyson won the WBC strap from Bruno. Afterwards, Tyson was supposed to fight Lewis because Lewis was rated the top contender for the WBC. Tyson and Don King wanted no part of Lewis, so Tyson relinquished the WBC belt and King paid Lewis a substantial amount of money to back away from facing Tyson. Immediately after this, the WBC undeservedly placed McCall as a top two contender because Lewis put the heat on the WBC to rank McCall high because he wanted the rematch knowing full well that McCall was in drug rehab. I do not like the way thing's went down at that time but looking back knowing what I know now about the corrupt WBC, it certainly doesn't surprise me.
The punch that McCall landed would've knocked down almost all heavyweights and the fact that Lewis got up was incredible enough. He was out on his feet and although after the stoppage he seemed well enough to be enraged, it was the right decision. McCall would have most assuredly put Lennox down again and the fight would have ended on Lewis's back instead.

Yeah I agree, Judah was enraged too but that doesn't mean he was fit to continue at the time of the stoppage lol

ACTUALLY THAT IS TOTALLY WRONG, don king took mccall out of rehab and promised him a tyson fight if he won, he also offered McCalll step aside money like he did with tony tucker to knock out lewis
Lewis took King to court for trying to gove him step aside money insteaf of fightin tyson but the WBC president rejected it

That is not how I remember it. Lewis took the money offered by King and Tyson. Don King as I remember did not have anything to do with McCall vs Lewis 2.
