  • An Analysis of Today’s Top Heavyweights

Change is something that frequently takes place in everything, especially in the world of boxing. The result of a single fight can change a boxer’s reputation, change the ownership of a title and reconstruct the rankings in a weight division. A great example of is Oleg Maskaev stopped Hasim Rahman in the 12th round on August 12th. Maskaev became the new WBC heavyweight champion, people everywhere found a new hero, and Maskaev’s name would instantly rise in the rankings. Rahman would experience the opposite.

While there’s no arguing of which boxer holds a heavyweight title, there will always be that dispute of who is the better fighter. Some boxing fans would like to believe that the four heavyweight champions are the division’s best. Others feel that one or more of the titleholders are nothing more than lucky, especially in a division that lacks the talent it once possessed. [details]

Interesting list you have there. I see many things changing in the near future. Wlad Vs Briggs can make or break both men. If Briggs can win or even have a solid fight he will move up near the top. Toney Vs Peter same thing it's do or die time for both men. If Toney wins his value sky rockets but if he loses it's most likely over . A win over Toney would also give a spark to Peters carrer but he needs to show that he is not just a one dimensional slugger . I agree with your thoughts on Ruiz he should still be listed as one of the top guys .
    .
The man I see as the out of the lower rated is Calvin Brock. I think he has just about everything he needs to become a champion.

Wow, this list shows just how depleted the division is.

I think maybe you misunderstand ...
mainly based on their previous bouts, their reputation, and most importantly – their level of skill.
<<<< going by this] Toney by far has the best reputation over the ppl under him. Also he is more skilled than most under him.

Floyd Mayweather has much more skill than all of them, but we wouldn't put him on the list. That is a silly criteria, really. You cannot abstract 'skill' from size, strength, chin, etc. Toney has to perform well against real heavyweights (like Rahman and Peter, for example) to earn the ranking. What he did in lower weights should not influence this at all.

Good to see you had Krasniqi on there, very underrated, despite the loss. This list in general looks pretty bad though, but any list of heavyweights isn't going to look good.

Yeah, cant argue with that, the HW division sucks, & none of the other title holders deserve to be on the top 4

Can't argue with that either, I honestly think that Toney at the weight he fought Rahman would still beat Peter, he'd just do it more convincingly at around 220
