I’d would have liked to see Kelly face the likes of Kongo, Mckinson, Benn, Clay, Essuman etc before he steps up to European level.

I don’t think Kelly has been prepared in terms of matchmaking for a fighter like Avanesyan. Maybe his talent will be enough to see him through, but it’s a big step up from the likes of Winston Campos.
Credit to Kelly for taking the fight. I’d rather see him lose once or twice on the way to a title shot and be prepared rather than get mopped up in 1-3 rounds against a champion and suffer a career ending beating because he wasn’t prepared

Just watched some highlights of Avanesyan and see looks decent. Does he have much pop? Because he’s going to need it unless he wants to risk getting robbed

Yeah definitely, sometimes losses prepare you for higher levels because they force you into correcting mistakes.

Nigel Benn lost to Michael Watson for the commonwealth title, and it improved him as a fighter, it taught him patience and how to pace yourself in a 12 round fight.

Too many kids worry about protecting the zero’s these days.

Thing is this fight was originally meant to happen in 2018! That might have been too soon for Kelly, but the gap for me suits him and his talent will be the decider

He wins a close decision for me

I think this is a tougher fight than Benn, would be good to see Benn fight Avenysian next??

Yeah Adam Booth wanted no part of Avanesyan back in 2018. I’m actually picking Kelly by decision myself but his preparation in terms of matchmaking has been poor IMO.

Since it was originally scheduled he’s fought that Polish guy, arguably lost to Robinson and then that Campos. I’d have much rather seen him take some domestic fights in the last two years, I’d be much more confident had he been matched better.

If Kelly wins, I think we’ll get Kelly vs Benn later this year. If Avanesyan wins, I’m not so sure Matchroom will make Avanesyan vs Benn.

No I dont think they would if he won, my thought was assuming Kelly wins, could Benn facing Avanesyan be a good lead up to Kelly v Benn later in the year?

Ah I see man. I misread your post.

Benn seems to really want the Kelly fight so I do think it happens this year.

Time for Kelly to prove himself and erase all doubts. He’s in for a tough fight this Saturday.
