  • Comments Thread For: Valdez: I Was Very Mad At Berchelt For Not Taking Care Of Himself, Getting COVID

Oscar Valdez was furious when he found out early in November that Miguel Berchelt tested positive for COVID-19. Valdez was well into training camp for a fight that was scheduled for December 12 in Las Vegas. The former WBO featherweight champion had taken every precaution possible to ensure that him and his team avoided contracting COVID-19, but Valdez doesn't believe Berchelt did the same thing.

If MB and his team were taking care of themselves and still got Covid then it is what it is but to be out in public places like baseball games and what not, that’s frustrating for sure. Being a profesional is part of the job description. I’d be passed too! The fight is less then a week away and I can’t wait! Let’s go team valdez all the way!!!!!

Can’t blame Valdez for being upset. Berchelt has responsibilities as an athlete and a champ. He needs to take better precautions to keep himself healthy and to not jeopardize a major title fight.

this isn't political. postponements cost these fighters money and keeps them away from their lives, families longer. valdez has right to be upset.

You can’t get upset because someone catches COVID. People out here take care of themselves and are always taking precautions and people still end up catching it. It’s unfortunate, but I don’t know anyone that has deliberately wanted to catch COVID. For Valdez to judge someone that caught an illness speaks negatively of his character. It’s like becoming upset at someone because they got cancer. It’s an illness and we have to be thankful that Berchelt overcame the virus and did not have any complications because a lot of folks have not had the same fortune.

No that's a ****** comparison. You don't catch cancer because you decide to go to a bunch of public events. Doesn't sound like Berchelt was taking all the precautions he could and was being irresponsible. He said he caught it when he went to visit his mother? Well guys like Joe Smith Jr didn't get to see his family all throughout the holidays training for his fight and then got screwed over in the same way.
