Miguel Cotto would **** Paul Williams

When Cotto hits you, the damage lingers on.

Paul Williams shows a good chin, speed, and power. It would be a good match for both of them right now. By the way, who is Cotto's next opponent?

Cotto, Tony, Floyd, Zab and COllazo all beat Williams.

Agreed. The fact that Mitchell found early success in making Williams a short man, makes him easy pickings for a guy like Cotto, who knows how to get inside and do serious damage.

I don't know if Cotto would penetrate those long arms. Even though Williams likes to brawl, I think Cotto might get hit too much on the way in. He's too calm to go in there and just wail on him rather he'd try to pick his spots and probably lose a decision. OR, he could KTFO Williams with a nice left hook to that huge long body.

Cotto should be fighting Urkal next if they can convince Quintana to go toke it up under a palm tree for 5 months and wait for the winner.

Cotto can get in on him if he goes in low and nullify the uppercut. William's only hard punch in close is the uppercut, everything else is ***** taps.

I like this matchup and think Cotto has a very good chance of winning. I think Cotto's amateur career and boxing skills with the added weight. I think Cotto has been in with Harder punchers and will be able to take Paul's shots. I think Cotto's work rate and punch combo's will also be reminicent of the younger Cotto (pre-weight problems).

But PW has a shot of winning which makes this an interesting and good fight.

if malignaggi can go the distance than williams will make it the distance. both would fight conservative for a couple rounds trying to figure the other guy out. williams fought mitchell like it was a video game and he knew he would easily overpower him, he wouldnt bring that approach to a cotto fight so its not a fair comparison.

i see a very close decision and an excellent fight if this happens. im gonna go with williams just cause im not a real big cotto fan and id rather see williams survive as he has more untapped potential IMO

Exactly it would be an excellent fight that would establish Cotto as a true WW contender and actually answers some questions people might have about him at WW. Fighting Urkal wouldn't answer anything and only invite speculation for Cotto's next WW bout.

Also Paulie went the distance because he held on when he had too and he used his feet well. Add to that the fact that Cotto hurt his left hand some time in the 4th or 5th round also helped Paulie go the distance. I think Cotto's power will translate well in WW the way Duran did when he went from superfeather to lightweight. Of course this is all speculation on my part and we will only know the answers when Cotto fights top guys at WW.

However I think we both agree that this would be a good measuring stick for both PW and Cotto.
