    paul william's reach

I was watching the paul williams fight this weekend and it talk about how long the reach of williams was and they said it was 82. Does anyone know any boxer that has a longer reach than 82?

The truth is nobody uses the full reach anymore except for Showtime. HBO started doing just arm length because a guy with a wider back or shoulders could be listed as having a bigger reach. Williams arm length is 25 and Floyd's is 26. Floyd's arms are longer then nearly everyone from 130 to 154. His arms were even longer then a 6'3 Maskev.

I think people assume Williams has this great reach but its not the reach, its the height. Your arms hang down so if your fighting someone much shorter then its easy to keep your hands in his face but if your fighting someone much taller then you always have to raise your arms in a awkward manor.

You could have the same exact reach as your opponent but if he's 5 inches shorter then it will look like you has a long reach advantage and if he's 5 inches taller then he will look like he has the longer reach.

Thats all I think it is. Just think about your friends. You have friends thats alot shorter then you. Think about fighting him and punching downward. Think about your tall friends and punching really high. All of you could have the same reach but it will just seem alot different

I never understood why HBO went with arm lenghth.

If Williams has a reach of 82" and Floyd (we will say for the moment he's the same height) has a reach of 78", the 1" arm length advantage really isn't anything as Williams' head would still be out of reach by a good 2-3", though it would make a difference in the body attack.

        It's a push.

becauseusing 'reach' never made any frickin sense in the first place . Ali's reach was 82 they said on the show that it was 80 but i've always hears it was 82 .Lewis i think was 85 and Tyson is only around 76 or so . arm lenth is the only thing that matters i don't know why they ever used 'reach' .

Because the bradth of the shoulder can also help in making distance between you and your opponent or help you reach him if you use a proper stance, ie. not squared up.

just the other side of your body is out of range your arm lenth would still be what makes the range between you not your shoulder width.

This is so idiotic. How about a undefeated Chico? How about Genero Hernandez, Carlos Hernandez, Chaves, Manfredy, and I can go on forever. Please dont talk dumb.

Give me the great list of Margarito's opponents
