Not ATG overall but probably somewhere in the top 20 of ATG MWs. With BHops consistently in the top 10 it's hard to have GGG very much lower. As ever though ATG discussion should wait til well after a fighter retires to both give a before and after context and to reduce biases either way.

his legacy is bigger than his record, because he was robbed twice with fights to canelo.

that so called "cherry picker' beat canelo twice, if only to be robbed, and that was beyond his prime years.

think if he's two fights with canelo was 'rightfully' awarded W iso L, then many of us here may change our opinions and lean more towards ATG. instead its Canelo who even awarded what he shouldnt have may be assumed future great. so unfortunate.

Great fighter, solid champion but leaves questions behind.

The previous poster who said he got old just as the division became competitive was 100% correct.

Strictly by stats, he's an ATG.

Off paper, he's the second option since he was robbed from the Canelo win.

Put that win that should have been on his resume' and he's an ATG, no question about it.

For sure, given Canelo's achievements and trajectory even giving GGG the W in the first fight would have elevated his status considerably. As it stands his legacy mainly rests upon his longevity rather than depth and quality of defenses and the lack of a single official win against a recognised elite hurts him. If he's able to make another coupla defenses against top 10 guys or even better is able to unify again at his advanced age I personally would think he's deserving of a top 10 ATG slot at 160 although right now I'd suggest somewhere in the 10 - 20 range.

There's no criteria for ATG so it comes down to a fan's opinion. According to Golovkin's stats, he was the best MW of his era And one of the best MW's of all time.
His only defeat in 43 fights is a MD loss to a prime Canelo which is still considered Alvarez's signature win.
