Even with a home nation advantage he HAD to at least at some point had figured "oh maybe I shouldn't do this after all there HAS to be at least one or more individuals who won't overlook this/turn a blind eye and make it come to light"...

Apples to Oranges. Canelo had a small substance consistent with tainted meat. There is little to no benefit from that substance outside of extremely high doses. It was months before his next scheduled fight. There would have been no benefit for him that far out from a fight.
Plus that same test would not have triggered a fail result based on current standards.
Plus he had a better performance in the second GGG fight with more stringent testing involved.

Kovalev was deep in camp and came up dirty. I doubt he just decided to do this for this fight he was favored in vs a fight vs the top P4P guy that would have been a legacy win and set up bigger paydays.
