Can Monte Barrett beat Nicolay Valuev?

Some of us think Valuev has already lost - to Ruiz and/or to Larry Donald, but his record is still clean.

Monte Barrett's effort against Joe Mesi was too late, his KO of Owen Beck looked less impressive as Beck looked bad against Ray Austin and Valuev, and his win over Dominick Guinn lost its luster as Guinn went 2-3-1 in his next 6...

But a lot of people will agree with me that Valuev is very beatable by a competent Top 10 heavyweight. The Barrett that fought Rahman probably can't win the WBA title fight Oct. 7, but he can be better than that.

Who thinks Barrett can beat Valuev and if you were his trainer how would you try to go about it?

That big neanderthal Valuev looks as though he has the ability to take punches well. Barrett's only chance is to decision him. However if Valuev catch's Barrett with a couple of those shots he caught Beck with, it is good night for Monte.

"Floyd has been pulled from my #1 spot. I am on a Floydcott til he fights a real challenger. "

Judah, Castillo, Corrales, Gatti, and Baldomir aren't real challengers? Why? B/C they're not unknown and proven KO artists? Would you prefer he move up to heavyweight and challenge Wlad?

guru, Baldomir is the Ring Magazine and linear welterweight champion. Surely if Floyd beats him he makes it onto your p4p?

I think Valuev, if he fights someone who can go to the body and won't stand in front of him the whole fight, can KO him around 10. I don't think that Barrett's the guy but I think there are a dozen or so guys that can put the big man down.

floyd is the #1 fighter P4P, but i'm floydcotting him til he fights someone that isnt a huge underdog to him... baldy maybe the WW champ, but he's a huge underdog... floyd has fougth HUGE underdogs for 3 years now, its time to step up... until he does, i refuse to acknowledge him...

barrett sucks, NV will beat him...

The sad part is that Barrett could beat Valuev if he brings his A game. It is unlikely though because Barrett is not a big puncher and he doesn't create his offense well without the jab, something he won't be able to get working against the neanderthal Valuev. What Barrett is gonna need is to work on his forward footwork and get inside the long reach of Valuev. From there, punches in bunches and movement, to elude the slower Valuev.

                  Can Barrett beat Valuev? Absolutely.
Will the Barrett capable of beating Valuev show up? Probably not.

Valuev kind of surprised me in his last fight, he figured Beck out by the second round and was meeting him with his right, throwing uppercuts, every time Beck was trying to get inside. I think he was kind of surprised himself when he lifted Beck off the ground with that right uppercut, any heavyweight would be knocked down/out with that punch. If Valuev works on that, he will not be very easy to beat.

I don't think Barrett has a chance in this fight, if anybody wants to bet, I've got Valuev for up to 20 bil points.
