Comments Thread For: Anthony Pettis To Jake Paul: Ben Askren is No Nate Robinson

Back in November, Youtube star Jake Paul (2-0, 2 KOs) scored a brutal second round knockout of NBA veteran Nate Robinson. In the last few months, Paul has been calling for a fight with several MMA fighters - especially Conor McGregor - to a boxing match.

Depending on what level of training and sparring the social media kid has and gets o don’t see how a wrestler would be so much of a threat. MMA is a bruising hurting sport but boxing had always been the least trained on aspect for guys who are primarily wrestlers, judokas, BJJ artists, etc etc. In my own personal experience with being on an MMA team, kickboxing and Thai boxing (which are not the same as well) form the basis of punch training. Neglected is the head movement, feints, footwork, and bodywork from punches....I also didn’t see a whole lot of mixing up variations of 1-2-3-4 combinations. Rarely did I see someone even train in a lead 2-3, or tripping up on the 1, etc etc. When I asked the gym owner why he didn’t have a specific boxing instructor like he did a wrestling, bjj, judo, and Thai boxing coach for each, literally his response was “those classes don’t sell, MMA is suburban and the suburbanites don’t want training in boxing.”

I know **** all about MMA, but isn't Askren basically only a wrestler and that's why his UFC push failed?

No his ufc push failed because he ended up losing his undefeated record to a glorified journeyman who knocked him out with a flying knee in 3 seconds
