They'll wheel Ortiz to the ring and replace his dentures with a gumshield when this fight gets signed.

Ortiz also accepted on social media to fight AJ only to turn down his biggest ever payday. Social chat is cheap.

Regardless there is a few things which happening at moment:

      1) Whyte need to avenge Povetkin if we can first - any other fight can only happen if that is delayed by a period of time, something Whyte was saying he would want to do (which is where Ortiz name came from) if Povetkin wasn’t ready. There is no indication that is going to be prolonged too long due to his COVID illness

      2) Xmas and new year, there hasn’t been really any talk from anyone over that period and not really a surprise

      3) uk boxing has been banned until at least February now and the uk in general has gone into a complete lockdown (after a period of slowly increasing measures over last couple weeks). I don’t think any uk promoter is going to arrange any fight in the short term given that situation

U know whyte aint fighting ortiz but the better ? Is wtf aint ortiz fighting ruiz n such especially knowing ortiz is a top 10 talent better than joyce if ask me n well a better heavyweight than usyk?which aint saying much cause its obvious usyk aint a modern heavyweight. Give us ortiz vs whyte n usyk vs povetkin with winner facing eachother n that winner gets immediate first chance at aj vs fury winner. Joyce needs to fight a legit heavy say parker with wilder vs?ruiz?winner facing eachother n that winner getting the 2nd crack at. Aj fury winner or winner that fight vs the first bracket winner

The four-man shortlist of opponents consists of former world champions Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr, along with perennial contenders Luis Ortiz and Dereck Chisora.

“We will be reaching out to other players in the heavyweight division to see if they fancy it,” Hearn told Sky Sports News.

“I’d love to make Ruiz Jr vs Whyte, Wilder vs Whyte, Ortiz vs Whyte.

“Chisora is always ready. He is another name to throw in the mix, potentially, for Whyte if the Povetkin fight is delayed.

“He is always in excellent fights, always entertaining, he is on good form.

“But I really feel that Dillian needs to wipe that [defeat] off his record against Povetkin.

“That fight was planned for January 30 and previously November 21.

“Povetkin does need more time recovering from Covid but not too long. We expect him to have a four-week delay.

“When I conveyed that news to Whyte it didn’t go down very well!

“His first question was: ‘Who else can we fight?’

“‘Can we fight Luis Ortiz, Deontay Wilder, Andy Ruiz Jr?’

“The answer is: ‘Yes any of those would be fantastic’.

“But he does want, more than anything, to avenge the defeat that he suffered at the hands of Povetkin.

          “That is on his mind.

“So I said to him: ‘I think you should wait [to fight Povetkin]’.”
All that means nothing to me. Whyte called him out and Ortiz accepted

So Hearn is blocking the fight. Whyte needs to stop calling people out without Hearn's permission

only boxing fans would say that is 'blocking the fight'
                  it's just being realistic

personally here's what i think is going on in whyte's head.
he thinks povetkin is on the juice and biding his time without being tested...
he knows for povetkin HE is the money fight right now, so got to pressure povetkin by saying 'ill fight some other big name, not waiting around for you' (the implication being that povetkin will only be getting older)..

i think they did get a response from team povetkin but it was just a basic 'yeh, early spring time, late winter..just not by the end of january like we promised).

i still think its positive that ortiz has accepted and whyte (and hearn too) have said they'd happily make that fight.
if whyte does beat povetkin, then whyte ortiz has a chance..
that is if it isnt whyte ruiz or ortiz ruiz
                  eitherway those are all great...
and if we get to see wilder vs usyk too, even better.

you guys are always looking to straight up attack eddie and his guys rather than just allow things to happen naturally. it goes without saying whyte needs to fight povetkin again. there's a mandatory fight going to the winner. he wont get that anywhere else.

Whyte: "We can fight anybody including Ortiz"

                    Ortiz: "I'll take the fight"

Whyte: "I am waiting for Povetkin to get better. It is the fight I really want."

                      1. Whyte has failed PED tests too so I doubt he's worried about that

                      2. Why he gotta pressure Povetkin into a fight when there's a rematch clause?
