  • Comments Thread For: Campbell: I Didn't Perform To Best Of My Ability Versus Lomachenko

Luke Campbell doesn't want to hear about moral victories. Much has been made of the 2012 Olympic Gold medalist and former two-time title challenger serving as the toughest test in the young career of unbeaten contender Ryan Garca (20-0, 17KOs). The storyline is usually assigned to the fighter deemed as the gatekeeper in the equation, a measuring stick to the young gun on the rise.

Usually when someone beats you its because they dont *allow* you to be the best you.

    It’s kind of the point

Still, I think he’s very good. This is going to be close to a make or break for Ryan. He’ll keep having fans and he’s young but I’m excited for this. It’s an important fight for the division and in a way for boxing with a guy being groomed to be a next generation star

Fear can do that to you too. Loma didnt "give" Lopez the first seven rounds, because he wasn't scared.

        That's how I feel about it. I can't wait.

Unfortunately he doesn’t have the track record to indicate he can raise to the occasion on the big stage. Anyone can feel like a monster in the gym. I’m not picking Garcia to win but if Campbell is stiff he can get taken out.

Of course he doesn’t have “the track record to indicate you can raise to the occasion on the big stage” until he takes a fight that establishes that. That’s what this fight is. I believe Garcia take Campbell out no matter what form of Campbell shows for fight night.

Pretty sure he is referring to Campbell. His track record specifically indicates that he's fallen short on the 'big stage'. (multiple title shots). This fight here is the closest Garcia has been, to the 'big stage'.
I'm having a tough time calling this fight. I like both guys and don't want to see Garcia lose, but I'm leaning toward Campbell saving his career on fight night.

Cant help but think Campbell's career night was against Linares and came up short.

With this fight you look at the Luke's age, his motivation, fighting away from home, being post covid, and even practicalities about what type of sparring would Luke have been getting in Hull?

I'd be surprised if he does anything more than keep safe and last the distance.

                    That’s definitely a fair assessment
