By Kenneth Friedman: Gennady Golovkin made close to $15 million for his non-title fight against Steve Rolls (19-1, 10 KOs) last Saturday night on DAZN, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Although GGG’s purse for the fight was listed at $2 million, he potentially made a lot more than that in coming close to $15 million for the four-round wipe-out, says Rafael.

There’s no official number for GGG’s purse for the Rolls fight. It sounds like a lot of money for what was essentially tune-up fight for Golovkin against a bottom dweller in the top 15. Few boxing fans had ever heard of the 35-year-old Rolls before last Saturday night, and it’s likely that they hear too much more of him.

If this figure is correct, Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KOs) is making big money even for simple mismatches like the Rolls fight in his six-fight, nine-figure contract with DAZN. One can argue that it’s no wonder GGG isn’t interested in fighting Demetrius Andrade, Daniel Jacobs or Jermall Charlo. Golovkin doesn’t need to fight those guys with the money he’s making with DAZN.

You’re giving redundant information that’s very old. The info you posted corroborates what was said. When industry revealed $100mil reporters had to assume that divided by 6. So of course Rafael is going to write what he thought GGG would get more of similar to how Haymon business works that fighters get more outside of what is filed with the commission.

Canelo vs Fielding was not a “premier fight.” That introduction was $17mil, and even back then Rafael assumed that because Canelo had $17mik DISCLOSED by the commission meant that “of course” or “surely” GGG got more than $2mil. Now we know that wasn’t the case when by Devry, Rafael disclosed $7.5mil and the other half in equity.

In other words. If GGG got $2mil for Rolls then $14mil was equity? Lol. This is what Rafael couldn’t make sense of. Therefore, we learned through Canelo verbiage for “premier fights” is that GGG did in fact only get $2mil cash. No wonder it was Rolls.

With this new information, GGg only made $2mil + $7.5mil + $≈ 3mil (Szeremeta). Szeremeta wasn’t a premier fight and it was part of the pandemic paygrade cut. He’d be lucky if he made the Rolls pay so I’ll give GGG a favor to say he made $3mil as a bonus for adjusting his contract in November.

He has only taken $12.5mil cash at DAZN. This is why Loeffler has been going nuts since the Smith fight in trying to get a Canelo fight. GGG Promotions needs it but at this rate, per the thread title, he doesn’t need Canelo anymore. The $100mil is void. Just like Canelo’s initial. It all means nothing, and GGG’s disclosed purses don’t add up at all to what was reported (“$100mil”) regardless of a pandemic.

With the pandemic cut, GGG Promotions has suffered from various circumstances.

Thanks for the info. Didn’t realize GGG has been making less than $15mil TOTAL cash at DAZN so far. Maybe his equity will be something unique but I doubt it. DAZN doesn’t need to do any favors to GGG.
