When most of the people in the world were gathering for dinner on Christmas Eve on December 24, middleweight contender Juan Macias Montiel of Sinaloa was with his uncles Pedro and Eduardo from the Kochul Gym team in California, avoiding food and liquids in order to make weight for his upcoming fight.

I was hoping to get Kirkland vs. someone of note. That's the end of that.

Either was I. Kirkland was washed up and they picked the wrong guy for him but he would have lost to any boxer worth a damn.

You said he was really bad and a cherry pick though too...

"Kirkland is renowned for being washed up. He is fighting another really bad cherry picked fighter in a feeble attempt to make him look like he is still a legit contender and not washed up and done at the top level."
At the very least it seemed like you expected him to win more than I did. I picked Montiel by KO and was even surprised he destroyed him in 1 round. More or less with the first punch that landed.

Just saw the highlight, they both looked slow as molasses.

Kirkland went spaghetti legs the first time he got caught when pressing his attack. Mandingo had a couple of decent wins on his ledger (Vera, Molina and Angulo); I saw him nearly decapitate Glen Talia.

Kirkland always reminded me of a smaller version of Julian "Mr. KO" Letterlough although without as good of a chin.

Montiel has all his wins by ko so maybe that wasn’t an ideal opponent for Kirkland who at this point in his career is chinny

Kirkland has pretty much always been terrible. He can't see or take straight punches
