Comments Thread For: Verdejo Showed That He Can Compete at Top Level, Says Top Rank VP

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Top Rank has not given up hope on Puerto Rican lightweight Felix Verdejo. Earlier this month at the MGM Grand's Conference Center in Las Vegas, Verdejo was knocked out by Japan's Masayoshi Nakatani.

The expectation of him as the Next big thing from PR was just tooo high.
While he has fallen far short, I still believe he has something to offer if his heart is still in the game.
I have been very critical of him in the pas but after his attitude after his last lost to Nakatani I have now become a fan.
        I wish him the best.
He just needs to ignore the fair weather fans.

HE lost to Lozado Jr - a NOBODY.

Lost to Nakatani - a regional at best.

          "top level"??

          Am I missing something???

He can be a gatekeeper. He has some skill and could beat some prospects. He will never be top level though. Second tier fighter to gage prospects. He has heart too, which makes him a good second tier gatekeeper.

Top Rank are the Masters of blowing smoke up fans as****, and some gullible people out there actually buy it. They will say things like Crawford is P4P best ( even though he hasn't beat anyone of relevance) they will tell you Loma is P4P best ( even though he lost to Salido, never fought him again to prove it was a fluke and was somewhat protected until Top Rank got a real star in Lopez and fed him Loma knowing well that Loma was never as good as people made him up to be) but hey, it's business, and as long there's fans out there who eat up this sh**, they will continue to do it, and people will buy.

I am not a fan but he does have good skills but is a delicate fighter. The way he lost was horrible. No one around him would want to see that again; he stumbled back across the ring with his hands in the air - very dramatic.

I think it's definitely possible for him to be a "champ." In the same sort of way Haney became one. He is probably about as good as Haney is now, talent wise, but with much more serious vulnerability.

This dude is gonna be another zab Judah except without the world titles. He’ll beat some guys here and there and will give some top guys a tough time for a few rounds before eventually getting beaten.

He is fun to watch , that’s all i care about. And Id like to remind everybody. *** what anybody else thinks.

Verdejo is still young and has time to adjust.
