I’m not saying that Haney is the most lucrative option, however I’m assuming that someone like Ryan Garcia has a minimum guarantee anyway so he will get paid regardless of who he fights.
I understand where you’re coming from though. I would add that the “he’s not a name or a draw” excuse is a convenient way to delay or avoid someone.
When Paulie Malignaggi won a belt at 147, every top welterweight wanted a piece of him. Not because he was a tremendous draw but because they felt like he was beatable.
“But Paulie had a name” you might say, and yes he did, because he faced the top fighters. Why? Because they didn’t see him as a threat.
None of this is to throw shade at Malignaggi either because I think he overachieved. I’m simply saying that Devin Haney will have a tougher time getting the other top guys to face him because he’s a threat.
If he wasn’t then they would be lined up to take his belt (email or otherwise).
