More proof that those who would have been heavyweights in the past are now in football and basketball. Somewhere around the 90s we stopped seeing elite heavyweights from the USA vanish. Seems like the guys born in the 60s were the last batch of good American heavyweights. It makes complete sense, the NFL as opposed to the AFL, actually had quotas on how many black players they would let into football, it wasnt until the 70s that you saw the combined league hit 20-30% black, and now the nfl is 70% black. The dominant era of black American heavyweights from the 30s to the 90s is gone. The lack of good amateur programs in the inner cities I would conjecture has a lot to do with kids playing football and basketball in schools....those sports lead to university degrees before you go professional and guarantee million dollar contracts.....some hundreds of millions of dollars. Sorry American fellas, you’ll have strong presence from Jr lightweight to super middleweight, maybe light heavyweight as the natural middles and super middleweight move up but any young man with the height and athleticism is probably going to be moved towards the big three American sports of basketball, football, and baseball. Shooting guards, small forwards, strong safeties, defensive/offensive ends, quarterbacks, running backs, linebackers the lot of them.....
The only chance we have is if all those people who are running away from football to run back to boxing, but the thing that's chasing guys away from football (head injuries) is the whole point of boxing, so yeah, we'll have a few decent heavies here & there, but we're not gonna dominate anymore.Comment

Lol Hardy is funny they need to put him in with Derrick Lewis in the UFC he likes beating up bums who beat on women like Travis Browne. Hardy has terrible cardio mixed with asthma I think even someone like Eric Molina would lay him out let alone any of the top dogs he needs to stay getting beat up and DQed in MMA because he won't last in boxing not with his bad knees.Comment

The fall of the Soviet Union, the development of boxing programs in those countries, and the globalization of boxing has made the sport more competitive than ever. Since America no longer has a monopoly on the sport, we must be living in a "weak era" and all the good black American heavyweights are conveniently busy doing something else.Comment
