If you want to hype up a fight as a promoter and you are trying to con the public into thinking fighter A is some knockout artist and we should all tune in to see him knock his next opponent out. Today we have the internet and it is easy for people to debunk that promoter and find the truth. In the past you had to read about it in the paper or see it on tv and there was not much money or incentive to right opposing pieces. Everyone wanted in on that band wagon because it meant more ad revenue.
I do not mind having casuals tune in for a fight. I consider myself a UFC casual where my brother is a hardcore UFC guy. I watch UFC fights/events maybe 1-2 times a year. Do I pay for them? No, my brother does. UFC is not my thing and I do not find it entertaining enough for me to want to invest my time into it. I am getting off point now.
In the end I agree that Canelo should test the market and see what else he can do with his fights on other networks. This way they could start a bidding war for him and pay him more.
