So just do a rematch then. This fight is a fight of the year candidate and so running it back may not be a bad thing. Verdejo may not end up being the new Trinidad or Cotto but maybr the Puerto Rican Arturo Gatti

He took a beating. He may become the new Juanma. Sadly this fight was winnable and in better fashion than Lopez but Verdejo was throwing fastballs all night & it got predictable.

Gasses out mid fight then becomes extremely susceptible to ko. Can he fight in a way to hide that weakness? His whole approach is so high energy and athletic. He has a chance. He also has more of a chance to become a Khan-like figure in boxing.

What fight were you watching? Can you even see? I'm concerned. 89 year old Bob Arum, who never bites his tongue or was ever hesitant to rip Verdejo for his previous showings or mishaps, saw Verdejo as "spectacular" until he wasn't. Argue with yourself, but he definitely didn't take a beating.

Verdejo dominated 7 of the 9 rounds they fought, and as close to literally as possible had it not been for him losing.

Of the two that he didn't, gassed by then, he was knocked down in the 8th by a singular solid jab, and was knocked out in the following, again by a single timely hook. Both punches of which might not have shaken him if he had the tank Nakatani had and wasn't fatigued.

The deciding difference in this fight was that the guy that was hurt, wasn't tired, and the guy that was tired, was at that point easily hurt.

Nakatani is a work horse and can grind. So was and did Kamegai.
It was his night. Verdejo has his issues.

Hating is bad for your health.

I mean he could have a title reign, specifically these days when there are so many belts, but idk that his ceiling is very high. I'm not downplaying him too much for losing, but with his motivational issues in the past & the fact he's been upset twice now in fights those high level TR matchmakers setup its not looking good for him. And I wouldn't be surprised if TR drops him upon his next bad night, whether it be a lackluster performance or another L.

I thought of Khan also, but won't settle for that. Khan was hurt/stopped/beaten by basically anybody, non-punchers included. We've yet to see Felix struggle with the alleged punchers he's faced, but he apparently struggles with pressure types.

Khan doesn't have, never had, the tools that Verdejo does - athleticism, power, frame, etc. but unless the two losses for Verdejo prove to be one-offs or rarity at the end of his career, all of those tools and potential could be useless if he proves to have a Khan chin.

                    Hoping not haha
