Timestamped for clarity. Adam Smith is asked what he made of AJ's post-fight interview. He gives some interesting insights into the "new look AJ." Seems AJ's *** speech wasn't a mistake as Hearn painted it, but is the start of a new chapter for AJ. Are we gonna be seeing more off-the-cuff AJ in the future? Let's hope so. A lot more interesting than the media-darling AJ that Hearn and Matchroom manufactured!

The interview after the fight was basically AJ sticking his finger to Skysports based on how they have treated him in the last 2 yrs. AJ isn’t the type to show you his hands but he sees everything and would react at the appropriate time. And that’s what you’re seeing now.
AJ is the one who has kept Skysports boxing PPV relevant. However, they never treated him as such. When the whole AJ vs Wilder was going on - they treated him like just any other fighter and kept bringing Wilder to skysports to help his narrative. AJ never got the same treatment in the US. Then when he lost to Ruiz - everyone at Skysports wrote him off and picked against him in the rematch. After that, they started sucking Fury off, including Adam Smith.
His next fight against whoever is the last fight on his current contract. And don’t be surprised if he doesn’t resign with Skysports. I honestly won’t be surprised if he signs with a big US Network or DAZN after that. Skysports haven’t been loyal at all.
But I don’t see him moving to the US since his coaches are based in the U.K. and are part of Team GB apart from Angel who runs the boxing department at Loughborough Uni now.Comment

Yeah I wouldn't be shocked and good on him. I think he cuts and runs now, he'll do his standing and competitiveness a lot of favours.
Only question is whether Hearn and Sky Sports will let him easily (they won't).
He's been favoured heavily by the powers that be throughout his late stage amateur career and his pros. Press conferences, early PPV coverage, favourable referees and even a supposed TUE (not entirely convinced that's even true TBH) but it stands to question how well he will be able to adjust on his own. His friendliness with Mayweather is a good sign but I still think breaking that all so lucrative American market means a fight with Wilder just has to happen, Fury too. Lewis's fight with Holyfield cemented his status in the US and made him a massive PPV draw. His defeat to Ruiz sunk his credibility there to zero and he'll be building back up from the ground up and without the Sky/Matchroom machine behind him.Last edited by KingGilgamesh; 12-15-2020, 12:13 PM.Comment

I think he's tired of the PR stuff and just wants to do his own thing now, I don't think it's against sky as much as he's given up on trying to please everyone in the UK.
I don't blame him as the UK casuals are fickle glory hunters who went from wanking off AJ for 5 years to calling him a stiff dosserComment
