Whyte not facing povetkin in january?

    From dean povetkin himself

why would he want someone else? he should just wait so he can get his mandatory spot back upon a win, who on earth is he gonna fight?

I heard from a half decent source that they’re half expecting Povetkin to keep delaying and not even sure his pull out was genuine, and basically Povetkin’s team are not being too clear on committing a rescheduled date.

So Whyte might be looking at other options other than wait around. The WBC never actually confirmed Whyte would get his mandatory spot back in the rematch, that remained unclear. The rematch clause was just that, there’s nothing in the rematch clause about mandatory slot because promoters don’t control that.

So basically with the WBC never confirming the mandatory position is on the line, and Povetkin’s team not being easy to pin down for a new date. Whyte may just cut his losses and find a new opponent.

But if there a rematch clause anyway, you would think they would make Povetkin adhere to it still, and do what they could be to get that mandatory position on the line, even if it meant a few more months of getting it to happen. So I don’t see the rush for a new opponent.

Why don't Wilder and Whyte go head and settle their differences while AJ and Fury fight
