    an average boxer would never get a title fight, he just wouldn't be good enough

      If he is an average boxer he should not ever get a title shot because he is not good enough to beat very good fighters and deserve a title shot. A very good boxer with championship potential would get a title shot in about 20 pro fights these days on average I guess. I never thought about it much before. Boxers only fight about twice a year now and they used to fight 3 or 4 times a year maybe 20 years ago. So everything is speed up now including getting a title shot. If it takes too many fights to get a title shot a boxer could be past prime already when he wins the title.
