What has been the biggest fight in “American boxing” history? What separates “boxing history” from “American boxing history?” Is there such a thing? What has been the biggest fight in “Mexican boxing” history? Is there such a thing? “French boxing” history? “German boxing” history? “Japanese boxing” history?
Strange strange mentality this island mentality is....someone tell the old country that the “empire” is long dead....Comment

You would be correct about Lewis vs Bruno, it was massive because the British public worshipped the ground Bruno walked on particularly being one of the first fighters to actually hurt Mike Tyson. I remember vividly how Bruno called Lewis a “pea****” and the sense was while we accepted Lewis, Bruno was the “real Brit” since Lewis had a trans Atlantic accent that was partially English partially Jamaican and partially Canadian. Lewis grew up playing basketball and grid iron football rather than football as we know it. And Lewis didn’t win gold for GB. Not only was the fight massive in England but it was huge in the USA as well because Bruno had become endearing to American fans as well after the Tyson fight, his ko percentage, etc etc. Later on, while watching the fight with McCall with American Soldiers, not one rooted for McCall, everyone cheered for Bruno. At the time though it seemed that there was nothing Cardiff Arms Park had been created for other than “The Battle of Britain” between two British born fighters fighting for the world heavyweight title, the first time in history....the fact that it was named after “Our Finest Hour” (to quote the former Prime Minister and First Lord of the Admiralty) speaks volumes about how that fight was viewed at the time. Names like Benn, Lewis, Bruno, Eubank, Moran, Honeyghan, Hamed, Turpin, Buchannon etc....those names are legendary for our island. I’ve been watching this sport since the 70s and a fight with Fury and Joshua may be biggest in terms of money generated (possibly) but not in any way in comparison to Buchannon going to PR and beating Laguna when he was thought to lose, and then unifying and becoming UNDISPUTED. Or Honeyghan DESTROYING the p4p#1 Curry....or hamed winning titles in different weight classes and taking the USA by storm. Or the great Nigel Benn whom is my favourite fighter in history because of his ability to overcome.Comment

The ragamuffin man upsetting don curry was jaw dropping, only really a kid at the time but I knew Honeyghan was supposed to have no chance and it was like, he’s holding his own, he’s actually winning, he’s done it. Incredible.
I imagine froch is going to create an account on here to take you to task on why you haven’t included the groves rematch in front of 80,000 people at Wembley.
One classic domestic dust up that goes under the radar and I’d recommend to any fan to look for on YouTube, Alex Arthur vs Michael Gomez in Edinburgh, the hostile environment, the brutal seesaw action and the dramatic ending. ClassicComment

The Napoles fight was 45 years ago last Sunday. I've got a great fight poster signed by John hanging in my living room & still correspond with him from time to time.Comment

I remember the build up to the Battle of Britain vividly. I was and am a Lewis fan but yeah the majority of the British public were rooting for Bruno. There was a perception of Bruno being a “true Brit” with Lewis perhaps using it as a flag of convenience and the photo shoots with union jacks and him wearing a West Ham top being a little contrived.

Froch is underrated and yea you are right that it was massive fight.
Spot on on the frank vs Lennox. And I admit, I rooted for Bruno and remember being very cross when Lewis caught him with that left hook after being wobbled by Bruno. Believe me when I tell you gentlemen that there have been two fights in which I lost my voice because of....Bruno vs McCall and Holyfield vs Tyson IComment
