could Buster douglas ever have become a great champion??

I just watched the tyson vs douglas fight for the first time today on ESPN, I was amazed at the heart douglas showed throughout the entire fight. I just want to know what you guys think, did he have the potential to be one of the greatest?

Yes, the problem with Douglas was that he was too lazy, Douglas had good tools, Douglas looked great in some fight and also looked liked **** in others.

The Douglas that fought Holyfield had no intention of winning the fight, he came to collect his 20 mil check.

      Physical potential...yes.

Douglas had every gift a fighter could want to be one of the all time greats. However, he lacked the one sole element that every potential all time great NEEDS....."want-to".

You gotta want it bad enough. Having the talent isn't enough. Something deep inside you has to be burning to be the best. Douglas didn't have that.

For one night in his life, he was indeed Great; and that's more than most of the people on this planet......but the one element that Ali, Marciano, Johnson, Dempsey, Louis, and the other ATG's had, Douglas didn't. Witout that one component, all is for naught.....you'll never make it.

Yeah he was lazy like Rid**** Bowe. Also some people questioned his heart(not in the Tyson fight). He did come back years after Tyson and fought some. He had gained a lot of weight.

Well just like most of the other big name heavys of the 80's Buster had every tool needed to be great . I always say that Buster is one of the most underated fighters, well heavyweights of all time but it is his own fault.I think Holyfield would have beat him no matter how he came into the fight and tyson at his best would knock him out but he should have always been a top contender in the highest form .With all this said there are other era's that he could have been great with his size, speed, jab and movement but they a far and few because you never know what you will get when he steps in the ring . OMG I think i'm a Buster fan I just wonder what he would be if he had just started fighting today or in the last few years with the Byrds and Ruiz's around .
