Canelo was better promoted but Crawford is P4P #1 by most experts.

He should have at least 2 more loses on his record that would automatically keep him from the top spot

Crawford flashes the skill to be P4P #1 but he isn't doing it against top class competition.

              So he is somewhat unproven.

A lot of people don’t understand the P4P criteria in which they vote. And it’s really subjective voting within these 4 criteria. I think it boils down to Canelo & Bud right now and I will place who I think has the edge in each criteria. Feel free to disagree and why. And I love both Canelo and Bud.

                  1. Recent performances.

Bud has the most recent performance that sticks out in peoples minds although the KO of Kovalev was impressive moving up in weight. And the decision win over Jacobs in 2019 also. I have to take Canelo here.

                  2. Victories over high quality opposition

Again, I have to give this to Canelo. If we base this on the past few years, and going back to 2019 because of how Covid-19 delayed more fights, I would take the wins over Kovalev & Daniel Jacobs in 2019 over Bud’s wins in 2019 & 2020 over Amir Khan, Egidijus Kavaliauskas, and Kell Brook. The key language is “high quality opposition.”

                  3. STYLE & fashion in which victories were achieved.

Canelo beat Jacobs but didn’t overly dominate him or stop him. He outboxed a slick boxer/puncher which was impressive also. His stop against Kovalev was impressive. Although Khan & Brook was has beens, those were dominating performances, both basically quit. And he was in a tough fight early with Egidijus Kavaliauskas and eventually stopped him. I give a slight edge to Bud here. The key word is “style & fashion” in which they won their fights.

                  4. Who would win if they fought in the same weight class based on talent and skill set.

This is a really tough one. If they fought at 147 or 160. Canelo can box also and if he catches you, it’s good night Irene. Canelo can take a great punch too. But Bud has so many tools in the toolbox, could he stay out of harms way and box to a decision. We know Canelo is not making 147, so this fight would have to be at a catch weight like 154. I would still give Canelo the edge.

                  My P4P, Canelo Alvarez.

If Canelo is being honest about working with any, and all promoters to make the best fights available. Then that's the best news coming out of his own mouth in a long time. Starting with his next fight against Callum Smith, it appears that he's telling the truth. Hopefully there won't be any more drama coming out of his camp, as he goes forward with his career. I'm looking forward to him fight the best in the world of boxing. He's an all around accomplished fighter, who brings excitement to the sport of boxing.

Who remembers Canelo saying right before the Kovalev fight that Beterbiev would be a easier fight den Kovalev only to move back down like a rocket ship right after Lol
