Comments Thread For: Mike Tyson Disagrees With Mayweather: Boxing Does Not Have Too Many Belts

Two of the greatest boxers of all time have a difference of opinions on the championship picture in the sweet science. Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently blasted boxing officials, and partly himself, saying that the sport has way too many champions and that the convoluted title picture they've created and cultivated has further caused confusion for fans, who ultimately can't determine which fighters are the sport's crme de la crme.

Mike’s point is well taken. The do deserve to get paid. But there are still way too many belts and too many unscrupulous sanctioning bodies. Can start with the WBA and it’s trash interim and regular titles

Maybe they should have a weight class for every pound. That way you could have a hundred divisions between 110 and 210 lbs. Then you could have 10 belts per division and have a 1,000 different champs at the same time.
Imagine that. A guy could be a ten time champ just by going from 130 to 140. He could be champ at 130, 131, 132 and so on. It would be great. I mean everyone could be a champ

Well like Tyson said an all of us on here in these forums these belts put extra $ in their pockets, so until multiple top fighters decide to do away with the belts an not take that extra $100k-$500 that comes with a championship fight then we'll keep living in this bull crap of a sport in boxing with these meaningless belts. Jus go an tell canelo an all the undercard fighters to not take take the extra hard earned $ they can get jus for those belts on the line in there fights

As much as I like Tyson and can see his point of view in terms of fighters making money, he's wrong on this one. It's to the point where people aren't even caring about titles, it's just watered down and diluted. Heck Broner is multi-weight champ and his best win for a title is Paulie Malignaggi for goodness sakes
