Imagine this is 1980 at welterweight division..

You had Sugar Ray - Duran fighting for WBC and lineal and Hearns -Cuevas for WBA. IBF and WBO didn`t exist.

No **** boxing was better. there were much less titles available. You had to beat somebody to be a champ.

I mean why just 2? I say all 4 & someone with integrity needs to create The Belt.

Ain't happening anytime soon obviously & may not ever happen, but dreaming of how things should be is always fun.

Good and great fighters come and they go. There are probably just as many good and great fighters now as there ever were. Boxers don't fight for belts so much as they fight for money and there is damn good money to be made in boxing right now. That good money brings in good talent. Look at the money Canelo, AJ, GGG and Fury make for instance. They all make from 16 million to 35 million every damn fight. It is human nature to say boxers of the past were better but I doubt they were all that much better or better at all. The best boxers of today would do OK in any other era. These good boxers of the past don't really get better. They just keep getting better as the years go by in the imagination of many fight fans.

You don`t really get the point. If there are less titles available, you have better championship fights, because fighters must actually beat somebody good to be champs.

It is not about the money, it is about fights.

If you think Crawford -Brook is something like elite welterweight fight, than you haven`t seen many really good welterweight fights from the past.

That is a great idea and it is too bad it is not doable. No sanctioning body is going to go away willingly and nobody can make any of them go away so how does this happen? By magic or wishful thinking?

There’s more to it than that now though

Now we have many promoters and fighters tied to different networks with exclusive deals. Unless a fight is making crazy amounts of money where networks will work together, then fighters are basically unable to fight someone else who is tied to another exclusive deal elsewhere.

So the problem is more than just belts.

I just don't agree with you that boxing was great back then and stinks now. I was a boxing fan back then too. There were 3 groups back then and there are 4 groups now so no huge difference there. I still say money attracts talent no championships. Lots of potential fights back then never got made just as some big fights don't get made today. Boxing might have been somewhat better back then for two reasons in my opinion. Boxers fought about 4 times a year instead of today's 2 times a year. World champions usually defended against a legit top 10 contender every time. Today some champions defend their titles against guys not even in the top 30.

WBC should buy IBF rights, and WBA do the same with WBO, then each merge those titles. Then we're back to 2.
