  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya on Canelo: 'I've Built A SuperstarI Should Feel Proud Of That'

Oscar De La Hoya is choosing to look on the sunny side of life after cutting ties with longtime client Canelo Alvarez in what has been perhaps the most high-profile boxing break-up in recent memory. The head of Golden Boy Promotions recently came to an amicable separation agreement with Alvarez, the biggest North American draw in the sport, after Alvarez sued De La Hoya, Golden Boy, and broadcast partner DAZN for breach of contract back in September. De La Hoya and Alvarez have been openly feuding for more than a year and it was widely believed that the relationship was not salvageable. Eddie Reynoso, the longtime trainer of Alvarez, will now handle all promotional-related endeavors for his charge.

It sucks when a promotional company invest so much in a fighter, then the fighter just leaves.

It suks when a fighter has the biggest fight of his career at the time and the promotor checks himself into rehab the night before the fight.

It suks when your promoter is doing some backdoor deals behind your back.

            Absolutely!

It was OSCAR who introduced us to this Red Head Kid from Guadalajara, Mexico years ago. Before Canelo believe it or not it was Victor Ortiz who was Oscar's Protégé! Most would probably laugh at that now but yes GBP and HBO was really pushing Victor Ortiz.

So Yeah Oscar for sure deserves Some Credit for at least helping build up Canelo. Being Attached to Oscar gets you more views and more attention just like Tank Davis being attached to Mayweather. Those are the last 2 Mega Cross Over American Boxing Superstars who made a lot of people Money so they have connections within the sport of boxing from their own boxing careers

Canelo is an ingrate. Without Oscar he's stuck in some go nowhere promotional deal with all star boxing which means he never would've been fast tracked to that bs title shot he got vs Matthew Hatton at 20 yrs old, never would've landed the Floyd fight and definitely wouldn't have gotten many of those generous scorecards he received throughout his career. If we're being honest, Canelo isn't any more skilled than other Mexican fighters like Barrera, morales or Marquez, but Oscar gave him the opportunities and cross over appeal to give him the star power those other guys didn't have.
